Washi Tape

I love love love washi tape!! I use it almost daily to add a little color to my notes and envelopes. I see a lot of questions around asking what you can use these little rolls of sticky goodness for. Here are just a sample of items I have jazzed up with the tape.

Easiest and fasted card I have ever made!! Just a simple strip of tape, with some fringed flowers, and you can make a card for any occasion!

Another card a made for a Harry Potter fan.

I also love jazzing up the outside of the envelopes.

Securing bubble wrap.

When using recycled packaging, sometimes it helps to add a little color to the outside of the box. I like to tape down the addresses, and the Post Office workers always comment when I get new designs!

There are so many more ways to use washi/deco tape, that this barely even scratches the surface of its uses! What do you use washi tape for?

Forever and a Day

I was fortunate to have someone contact me for a very special order. My customer and her husband have a saying that they have been telling each other for years, and she wanted it quilled. I was honored and humbled to work on something that they would cherish! The saying is "Forever and a Day". She sent me a pic of the room it would be displayed in so I could color match it. I know cursive in quilling is hard and time consuming, but I knew that it would be perfect for this project. So, here are all my work in progress pictures of this piece!

I am proud to say that she loves it!! It is so whimsical, and I can not wait to start another project like this one!

Quilling Horses

Yay for horses! I live out in horse country in Florida. I have always loved their beauty and strength, and knew it would be a perfect model for a quilled project.

I started with an outline. I didn't want a perfect replication. So I picked a pretty teal 12x12 paper and only used white strips. I just defines the face and added some wisps of mane.

The mouth was looking a little funny, so I redefined it and started marking where I would end the mane.

I wanted a nice full mane, and had to set the major lines of the hair.

I just had to add a little flower behind the ear, I really couldn't resist!

Here it is complete! She is going to look perfect in a nice white shadowbox!

Rainbow Hearts

I was making little hearts out of a rainbow pack of strips the other day. I had no mission, no great idea of what I wanted to create. I was having a bad day, and making these little hearts was very calming.

They looked so cute and cheerful, I had to do something with them! So I started putting the purple together, then adding blue around it. 

I loved how they looked so I kept adding, and adding.

 It became a little harder as it got bigger to fit in the new colors without so many gaps. I had to play with positioning until I had it just right.

I love how every single strip of paper is a heart, and I love how it starts out at purple and spreads out to red. This was a really fun piece and now I can't wait to see what else I can make out of hearts!

Quilled Cup of Love

I was accepted into the August themed auction over at Auction Junkies. The theme this month is Eat, Drink and Bid. I knew that a cup of coffee, or tea would be perfect!!

I had a couple shades of cream, and brown to choose from, so I started with 2 to see which looked better. I ended up liking the left one better.

I didn't want a literal cup and saucer, so I just used my papers to give an outline.

Once I started adding the little details I fell in love. I really need to make another for myself!

Here it is all glued down and in a pretty white shadow box frame. The white really offsets the cream background and makes the cup pop.

This piece will only be available in the Eat Drink and Bid Auction. It will be held on facebook from August 22 through August 25.

Monogrammed Shooting Star

I knew I wanted to try another star. I can't help myself, I normally have my head up in the clouds! I ordered a set of quilling paper in 5 shades of red and I knew it would go nicely with the design I had planned.

I started this Star like my other projects. I outlined a star with a long tail and glued that down on a heavy piece of card-stock.

I was using 5 shades of red, so I broke up the tail into 3 sections and blended 2 shades in each section. I started with the darkest 2 shades and made relaxed coils for the top part of the tail.

With the middle section I used 1 of the shades from the top, and another lighter shade.I just love these little flowers!

I was so excited to start the middle of the star, so I just jumped right in. I researched the most used first initial and came up with A. The initial can be made in any letter, and I can't wait to make more.

Filling in always goes in a couple of stages. The initial designs of what I want to use as the filler. Then adding some, and last making more to fill up all the empty spaces.

I couldn't decide on the middle of the A. I could either fill it like the rest of the star, or leave it open. I decided to go with open because when it was filled in, the A was lost in the sea of curls.

After the star was filled in, I used 1 shade from the middle section and the lighter shade to fill in the bottom of the tail.

Here it is all finished and ready to frame!!

I found some really nice shadowbox frames and knew this piece deserved to be in one!

I really love how the 5 shades of red compliment each other and I couldn't be happier with how it came out!

Shooting Star

It really is funny how ideas come to be. I wanted to join in an anniversary giveaway to help get my name out there. I decided to do something small, and with a popular color combo, it also has to be one of my favortite combo's too. So I found a 4x6 frame I had sitting around for a little while and got out my colors. I started cutting all the strips into 2 inch pieces and coiling them.

And there is where I sat. For a good hour I had no idea what to do. All I knew was I wanted to use those colors, in that frame. So, my daughter sat down with me and decided to quill something herself, and I asked if she wanted me to teach her how to make a star. That is when the light-bulb went off. Why couldn't I use those colors to make a shooting star? So, as I was teaching her to make a star I made one for my self. Everything else was easy peasy since I already had everything made up.

 

Laid it all out, then started gluing.
